Work Experience

These 5 works highlight my academic, technical writing experience.

Usability Test Report: Evangel Website

This usability test report highlights my skills in working on a time, meeting deadlines, design of experiment, conducting an experiment, following rules and procedures, formatting, editing, and rhetoric.

This project was challenging because of the delay in getting approved for human testing.

I am proud of this project, because it gave me experience in usability testing and the application of user experience concepts.

Instructions: How to Crochet a Magic Ring

These instructions highlight my skills in team collaboration, editing, and rhetoric. I worked with a team through several meetings and we divided labor to meet various deadlines. I took on the role of note taker, proofreader, and editor, and crafted a final product that used appropriate, clear, and concise language.

This project was challenging because I had never crocheted before.

I am proud of this project, because I was able to get experience crafting some elements found in professional instruction manuals.

White Paper: Opposition to War in America v1.5.2

This white paper highlights my skills in research, analysis, and the writing process. I worked alone for over 80 hours during a Technical Writing class, researching the subject deeply, analyzing the relevance of the information for my project, and rewriting at every step to conform my document to revised understanding. After my class ended, I spent another 10+ hours refining my document further, and even added a few new references to bring the total to 64.

This project was challenging, because of the sheer amount of information I had to research.

I am especially proud of the front page image, which took hours to personally create, by splicing two images together.

History Paper: The Fetiales, the Pantheon and the form of society

This history paper highlights my skills in research, analysis, and the writing process. I wrote it for a Technology of Western Civilization class, researching multiple subjects through all of written history, and analyzing the importance of the vast information so that a condensed cohesive message could be portrayed.

This was challenging to create, because it spanned the entire course of written human history.

I am proud of it, because I went further in one part of my analysis than all of the other research on the subject that I found, regarding the Pantheon and how it relates to human society itself.

Journalistic Report: A Climate Conversation with Peter Sinclair

This journalistic report highlights my skills in research and the interviewing process. I wrote it for The Lode newspaper, which is a student-run newspaper at Michigan Tech. I studied my interviewee by reading previous articles and interviews written about him and his work, and crafted a list of questions that probed further into who he is and the relevance of his upcoming research.

It was challenging because at the time I was less experienced with conducting interviews.

I am proud of it, because I was able to translate the information for the average reader.
